Our senior management team has substantial experience managing and investing in commercial real estate and real estate-related companies through an extensive variety of economic, credit and real estate cycles and market conditions. Since our inception, we have had limited turnover in senior management, resulting in a seasoned and highly cohesive leadership team.

The Investment Committee formulates our overall investment strategy, determines the optimal size of our portfolio of investments and approves all investment decisions, including acquisitions, dispositions and other financing or capital transactions. The Investment Committee establishes the balance between our tolerance for risk, targeted returns, timeline for investment and appropriate levels of debt.

Ericka L. Ayles is a Managing Director and the Director of Finance for Brookwood and Yesway. She also oversees the firm’s corporate financial planning function and quarterly financial reporting to its investors and is responsible for the development and maintenance of adequate internal controls. Ericka is a member of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Prior to joining Brookwood, Ericka worked for JDJ Family Office Services, a private financial and administrative service company for high net worth families and individuals, where she was a client manager providing accounting, tax coordination and planning, estate planning, financial management, and business consulting services to a portfolio of clients. Previously, Ericka worked at New Boston Fund, Inc., where she was a Vice President of Portfolio and Financial Reporting. Ericka worked at New Boston Fund from 2002 until 2014, where she managed a staff of 25 property and portfolio accountants and was directly involved with property, portfolio, and fund accounting. Ericka began her career in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP as an Associate and Senior Associate focusing on technology and higher education clients.

Ms. Barrett was also responsible for the design and development of a 75,000 square foot flex building in the Philadelphia Navy Yard and helped execute a lease for 100% of the building prior to ground-breaking. Prior to her development work, Ms. Barrett was Senior Director of Leasing and Development for Liberty being the Asset Manager for a 3.5 million square foot portfolio of office and flex properties.

Ms. Barrett is a graduate of Temple University and holds an MBA from Villanova University. She is also a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and holds a Pennsylvania Real Estate Salesperson License.

Thomas W. Brown is a member and President of Brookwood and the Director of Real Estate Acquisitions for Brookwood and Yesway.  Tom’s primary responsibility is to identify potential commercial real estate and convenience store investments.  In addition, Tom directs all acquisition due diligence, secures all property and portfolio financing, and oversees all property dispositions.  Tom is also responsible for managing Brookwood deal teams and, is intimately involved in the asset management of acquired properties to ensure that the acquisition strategies are effectively implemented.  Tom is a member of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Prior to joining Brookwood in 1994, Tom was a Vice President of Winthrop Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Winthrop Financial Associates.  As Director of National Real Estate Operations, Tom was responsible for the management of 30 million square feet of office, industrial, and retail properties representing over $3 billion of real estate.  Tom previously served as the President of a publicly held national real estate firm where he was responsible for the real estate operations of 250 office buildings and shopping centers throughout the United States.

Tom is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Association of Office and Industrial Parks, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Texas and received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dallas.

Mark J. Daniels is a Managing Director and the Chief Strategy Officer for Brookwood and Yesway.  Mark’ primary responsibility is to establish and review key strategic priorities and develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for each initiative.  As part of this role, he is charged with identifying, evaluating, and recommending strategies and specific opportunities for investment.  Mark is a member of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Mark was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Field Theory, an international software company specializing in the applied numerical simulations of sports.  In addition to designing and developing several key aspects of the software from inception to final release, he directed all aspects of the company’s organization, development, and administration; secured two rounds of private funding; achieved over 50% market share in the industry; and oversaw a team of almost 200 full-time employees, part-time employees and volunteers.  Prior to joining Brookwood, Mark was a senior operations consultant with Stroud Consulting, where his work leading client teams to drive process improvements resulted in millions of dollars in annual savings.  At Stroud, he worked extensively for a multi-national oil producer, exporter, and retailer and a major food-service processer and manufacturer, where his specific areas of expertise were in the consolidation and roll-up of facilities, network optimization, capital-free cost reduction, and the optimization of capital projects.

Mark serves as Secretary of the Board of The Princeton Tiger, Inc.  He is an active member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society, and the Canadian and American Mathematical Societies.  Mark remains the Chairman of the Board of Digital Field Theory and serves or has served on the advisory boards of Rifiniti, Inc., a real estate analytics software company, and Boston Microfluidics, Inc., a medical device development and manufacturing company.

Mark is a magna cum laude graduate from Princeton University with a degree in Astrophysics and minors in Computer Science and Engineering Physics, and he received his Master’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton, where he graduated with the highest grade point average and academic standing across all programs.

Dayton is a Senior Vice President and Director of Property Management for Brookwood Management Partners, Brookwood Financial Partners’ property management affiliate.  Jon’s primary responsibility is to oversee property operations for Brookwood’s national portfolio of office, industrial, and flex buildings.  His work includes recruiting, training, and advising senior property management staff; the development and implementation of departmental standards, policies and procedures; and oversight of national purchasing programs.

Prior to joining Brookwood, Jon was the Director of Property Operations for EDENS, where he led a team of property managers and oversaw the day-to-day property operations for a 6.5 million square foot retail portfolio with properties located across six states.  Prior to EDENS, Jon was a co-founder and Principal of Farley White Management Company, where he served as Director of Property Management, overseeing all personnel and day-to-day property management operations for a three million square foot, owner-managed, suburban and CBD office portfolio located in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.  Prior to Farley White, Jon was the Regional Vice President of Asset Services for CB Richard Ellis’ New England region.

Jon is a graduate of the University of Rochester with a degree in Economics and received a Master of Business Administration from Boston University.  He also holds the BOMI RPA designation.

Marcia is a graduate of Wellesley College, and she received an LLM from Boston University and a Juris Doctor from Franklin Pierce Law Center.

Thomas Nicholas Trkla is the founding member, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Brookwood and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yesway.  Tom directs all aspects of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s businesses, including managing operations, shaping and setting the company’s culture, values and principles, assembling and leading the senior management team, formulating and implementing investment and disposition strategies, and evaluating, structuring, and capitalizing the company’s commercial real estate and private company investments.  Tom is a member of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Prior to founding Brookwood, Tom was a senior executive with Winthrop Securities Co., Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Winthrop Financial Associates, a Boston-based real estate investment and management firm.  Before Winthrop, Tom was a Vice President at The Boston Company Real Estate Counsel, Inc., one of the first real estate investment advisors to large public and private tax-exempt pension plan sponsors in the United States.

Tom currently serves as an Advisory Committee member of the Massachusetts Campaign for Children, a non-profit statewide child advocacy organization, a Director of the Princeton Association of New England, a member of the Advisory Council for the James Madison Society at Princeton University, and a member of the Urban Land Institute.

Tom is a graduate of Princeton University and received a Master of Management degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  In 2004, Tom completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Winter is a Senior Vice President and Director of Human Resources for Brookwood and Yesway.  Rick ensures the smooth operations of the company’s human resources department and is responsible for talent strategy, compensation and incentive programs, payroll, benefit and retirement planning and selection, training and career development, performance management programs, employee relations, and managing all human resources personnel.  Additionally, Rick is responsible for advising senior management on the implications of legal issues related to company policies and discipline and has been instrumental in building a company culture that fosters the professional and personal growth of employees.

Prior to joining Brookwood, Rick was a Regional Human Resources Manager for Aggregate Industries, Inc., a global manufacturer and supplier of aggregate-based construction materials, where he was a member of the U.S. Leadership Team.  Rick oversaw all human resources related activities for two regions, including the management of 39 separate union contracts.  Prior to Aggregate Industries, Rick was Director of Human Resources for Hyatt Hotels in Boston, where he was a member of the hotel’s executive committee and was responsible for the management of the human resources department.  Previously, Rick was the Corporate Director of Human Resources for Beacon Roofing Supply, a national roofing distribution company, where he had full oversight of all human resources activities.

Rick is a graduate of Florida International University.  In 2017, Rick completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Kurt M. Zernich is a member, Senior Managing Director, Director of Asset Management and General Counsel for Brookwood and General Counsel of Yesway.  Kurt oversees the asset and property management functions for all of Brookwood’s properties.  In his capacity as Director of Asset Management, Kurt manages all property management staff, establishes standardized policies and procedures and best practices for each property in Brookwood’s portfolio, works with all property managers to implement each property’s strategic business plan, supports the asset and property managers in the development and execution of specific leasing and marketing plans for each property, oversees all capital implement projects, and reviews and approves the annual operating budgets for each property in the portfolio.  In his capacity as General Counsel, Kurt is responsible for providing senior management with effective advice on corporate strategies and their implementation, structures and manages the company’s internal legal staff, serves as the company’s principal legal advisor on all major transactions, including acquisitions, financings, dispositions, and joint ventures, advises on current and future business structures and legal entities, and manages the evaluation, selection, retention, and management of all outside counsel.  In addition, Kurt assists in structuring Brookwood’s real estate and corporate acquisitions.  Kurt is a member of Brookwood’s and Yesway’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Prior to joining Brookwood, Kurt was associated with the Chicago law firm of Ungaretti & Harris, where his primary focus was on private equity transactions and mergers and acquisitions.  Prior to entering the practice of law, Kurt worked at the Pennsylvania Treasury Department overseeing the cash management division and assisting in the management of a $6 billion portfolio.

Kurt is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Finance, and he received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctor degree from the Northwestern University School of Law.  In 2018, Kurt completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Before joining Brookwood, Mr. Zertuche served as Field Superintendent for Bexar County in San Antonio where he was responsible for quality control, project management, budgeting and purchasing.  Prior to that, he was Superintendent for CVC Construction in San Antonio, TX.

Mr. Zertuche holds certifications in Facilities Management from the APPA Institute and in Human Resources Training and Development from UTSA.
